«New Wave of British Heavy Metal» in Basel!
Buckle up! On Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024, the St. Jakobshalle Basel will be transformed into a heavy metal Olympus with Judas Priest, Saxon and Uriah Heep.
They are the hard workers of the heavy metal scene. Judas Priest could have retired a long time ago, but they are still on stage and have shaped classic heavy metal like probably no other band. The band around frontman Rob Halford is one of the pioneers who cut the blues roots of hard rock and created genuine heavy metal from them. As early as the 1970s, Judas Priest took over parts of the motorcycle and leather fetish and thereby decisively defined the appearance of a musical subculture. Classics like Breaking the Law, Turbo Lover or Living After Midnight should be familiar to every heavy metalhead and are indispensable in any heavy metal playlist.
The cult band Saxon, which existed since 1976, is also part of the party. Together with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Diamond Head, the band is one of the co-founders of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and, with frontman Peter “Biff” Byford, is still in top form after almost 50 years of band history.
Also on board is arguably one of the most influential bands in hard rock history: Uriah Heep. The band has been touring around the world for more than 5 decades and after their grandiose performance in the Hallenstadion as special guests of Krokus, they still seem to be in the best mood to play. With 25 studio albums, 13 live albums and more than 2.5 million records sold, the band is one of the Big Four of hard rock along with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.
